POSITION SUMMARY

The neurosurgeon provides neurosurgical patients with pre-operative care, including diagnosis, operative care of all major and minor procedures in the field of neurosurgery and postoperative care. The neurosurgeon also provides preventive care of patients according to approved procedures as part of an integrated program of curative/preventive services.

SCOPE:

Incumbent is a neurosurgeon that provides neurosurgical treatment for all eligible patients attending the Ambulatory Clinic, as well as hospitalized patients of any age group, including cases of all degrees of complexity which are within his competence and expertise. He provides day-to-day work including management and evaluation of all patients who require neurosurgical care within his clinical privileges as approved by the Credentials &Privileges Committee providing the best quality of care for his patient to the best of his knowledge and expertise and informing the Chief Surgeon of unusual problems in the field of neurosurgery which includes surgery on the head, spinal cord, nerves, caused by pathological disease or trauma. 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITY

JOB DUTIES

1.1. Provides comprehensive and diligent neurosurgical care to all assigned patients including pre- and post-operative care and such neurosurgical procedures as are within incumbent's competence.

1.2. Performs professional duties at district clinics at which outpatient neurosurgical care is to be rendered to patients.

1.3. Provides consultation services to physicians and other surgeons and

1.4. Assumes after-hours responsibility for the care of neurosurgical cases and makes daily rounds for those hospitalized.

1.5. Refers to, or consults with, other neurosurgeons on those cases that require more specialized diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

1.6. Adheres to the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Department and assures that work performed is in keeping with the established standards of the Hospitals Accreditation.

1.7. Consults with the anesthesiologist on the choice of anesthesia to be used.

1.8. Maintains complete and accurate records of all cases.

1.9. Consults with the Supervisor and/or Chief of Medical Service when considering a patient for preparation in or out-of-Kingdom referral.

1.10. Participates in and contributes to in-service activities such as lectures, conferences and rounds.

1.11. Performs other miscellaneous related duties as requested by Supervisor or Chief of Medical Service.

1.12. Keeps confidentiality of the patient's disease and does not provide any medical summary if not authorized by the Medical Liaison Office and does not release information about patients over the telephone.

1.13. Adapts to the team work in the Surgical Services Division and in Medical Services Organization.

1.14. Keeps a high standard in the neurosurgical field by attending meetings of neurosurgery, reviewing specialized journals and updated literature and keeps a high medical and ethical standard as required by the IMC Medical Staff Bylaws rules and regulations.

3. POSITION QUALIFICATION

3.1. EDUCATION

3.1.1 Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and at least four years of an approved residency in neurosurgery in an approved training program.

3.1.2 The applicant should have at least three years of experience in all fields of neurosurgery including traumatic neurosurgery.

3.2. EXPERIENCE

3.2.1. The neurosurgeon must have the Certificate of the American Board of Neurosurgery or equivalent certificate, e.g. the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Neurosurgery or other equivalent certificate.

3.3. EXPERTISE & SKILLS

Has good command of oral and written English.
